Improving the livelihood of local communities
Oil on canvas, 89 H x 70 W cm / 35 H x 27.6 W in
Created by Ofir Hirsh, under the Abu Lavie identity in 2014.

Through my work with the children of Agua-Sabrosa at Fundacion Marlee-Jo, I gradually became involved with the local community life. The villagers’ life in the countryside of the Dominican Republic is extremely challenging, and I was overwhelmed by the magnitude of problems they face on top of their poverty.
During 2014 I conducted a thorough research on sustainable agriculture techniques, and I came to believe that with proper education and guidance, these villagers can  become prosperous organic farmers. This painting expresses my interest and hopes, and my naive interpretation of the traditional Dominican agriculture landscape.
