The Wakona gathering

Oil on Canvas, 150 H x 100 W cm / 59.1 H x 39.4 W in
Created by Ofir Hirsh, under the Wakona identity in 2011

Creating untypical works once in a while, serves my personal revolt against the art world’s single style regime. While I tend to be very colorful in most of my oil on canvas works, to express my inner visions, and of-course to show off, this work can be easily categorized as monochromatic. I painted most of this work only with a single brown oil color. I think it was a burnt umber, and for the background, I blended it with a Titanium white. In the Wakona dream, I was alone on a remote island and had none of the colors I usually paint with, so to visualize this situation, I imagined that I could have used burnt wood sticks to draw figures on rocks. I could have also used stones to engrave trees, or sticks to draw in the sand. In any of these imaginary scenarios, I would draw monochromatic scenes. Since I missed the company of people, I drew the gathering of characters on the island.
