The wise flower
Oil on canvas, 80 H x 100 W cm / 31.5 H x 39.4 W in.
Created by Ofir Hirsh, under the Maduro identity in 2010

When I approached the canvas, my intention was to combine two remote occupations I used to practice on a daily basis, into one work.
The first was the nurturing of our vivid tropical garden in front of our beach house in Las-Terrenas (Dominican Republic). It included several Orchid species, Bird of Paradise, Heliconias, Frangipani, Hibiscus, Bananas and Coconut trees.
The second was Technical Analysis, a popular graphical method I utilized back then to visually quantify financial market data in my investment advisory practice.
I have always thought of the similarities between those stunning living flowers and the “cold” financial charts. While I have found both fascinating and full of wisdom, the flowers were definitely more vibrant and their future growth shape and direction were much easier to predict.
