What’s wrong with green, yellow or blue?
I truly love all colors, without any exception, and obviously, I love pink very much.
Being a father to a baby girl, I’ve seen a lot of pink since she was born, especially in her first year. My girlfriend and I tried to look for other clothing colors to suit our daughter, and although we found a few non pink items, it was still the pinkiest year we’ve ever had. I couldn’t figure out what made pink, the one and only chosen color for baby girls clothing, and to be honest, I didn’t make a thorough historic or cultural research about it. I believe that our baby girls’ minds will benefit if they will be introduced to other colors. However, giving it a second thought, I’m not at all sure that our baby girls are the reason behind the pink. Perhaps, it is more about us, the parents? Our perception of colors and our image. It might sound a bit rude, but maybe we are using our kids and babies as a decoration to our appearance? Do we strictly do it in order to comply with society’s rules? Or is it just a matter of convenience? Pink is not the only choice, but it is probably the easiest one, because it is the most available. So why bother? Personally, I didn’t feel that going against the pink ruling is my destiny. The truth is that after loudly complaining about the pink regime, I fell in love with it, or maybe even surrendered. Since I couldn’t escape it, I was inspired by it. As P.D. Kailani, I used more pink than any other of my identities. However, if I study my work since the beginning of my career, pink has always been there. Pink is a beautiful color and there are so many hues of pink I can create. Sometimes pink in my work merely fits well in the composition, but other times I use it to express a variety of themes, such as: love, pain, pleasure, passion, sunrise & sunset, flowers, hope, dreams etc.
With most colors, I maintain a deep layered relationship, which grows throughout the years. I usually feel that I know a color well, but then, new discoveries about it inspire me to study it more thoroughly. Colors have fascinating characters.
While I do have my favorite colors, and in some periods, I use specific colors more, philosophically speaking, as an artist and as a human being, I love all colors.
I make a conscious effort to educate my kids with that philosophy in mind, and I hope that my work promotes it.
My daughter is 7 years old now. She’s a real character, with her own opinions and taste. She still likes pink, but she also likes other colors. She looks absolutely gorgeous wearing a pink dress, but not because of the dress or the pink. She just happens to have the cutest, happiest smile in the whole world, and I am just a father in love.
